New JFK Routes: American Airlines Adds Amsterdam, Nice, and a Fourth London Flight
American is doing three things at JFK for 2027: two brand-new European nonstops and one frequency increase on its busiest route. All three launch on the same day tickets went on sale, August 31, 2026, and all three fly on the Airbus A321XLR or Boeing 787-9.
JFK to Amsterdam (AMS)
American's own newsroom confirms the route launches March 28, 2027, flown daily on the long-range A321XLR: the same narrowbody jet American has been using to open thinner transatlantic markets without committing a widebody to them. American already flies Amsterdam seasonally from Dallas-Fort Worth and year-round from Philadelphia; JFK is the third US gateway American will fly there nonstop.
Fares aren't published yet. American opened bookings on August 31, 2026, but a specific published economy fare for the March 2027 dates wasn't showing in early search results as of this writing. Set a fare alert rather than guessing. Amsterdam is already one of the most contested transatlantic markets, and JFK adds a fourth competitor to a route Delta, United, and now two American gateways already fly.
Launch week in late March lands in Amsterdam's tulip season (April), which is the single best reason to book the inaugural months rather than waiting for peak summer fares.

Four times weekly this is not: American lists it as daily, but a new route's first season is also its most likely to see schedule or aircraft changes if demand runs soft.
You're headed to Provence or inland France rather than the coast: Nice's airport is built for the Riviera, and connecting onward inland adds a transfer this nonstop doesn't save you.
JFK to London Heathrow: A Fourth Daily Flight
This isn't a new destination, it's a new frequency, and it's the one worth watching if you fly London regularly. American's newsroom states the airline is bringing back a "fourth daily flight between JFK and LHR" starting March 28, 2027, on a Boeing 787-9 fitted with Flagship Suite seats. Travel Weekly UK reports the airline had trimmed back to three daily flights for winter 2025-26, so this restores rather than adds capacity. Combined with joint-venture partner British Airways, American says the two airlines will run up to 14 daily flights between New York and London: the most of any airline partnership on the route.
London-JFK is one of the most heavily discounted premium routes in the world precisely because of how much capacity flies it. A fourth daily flight from American should, if anything, add downward pressure on fares rather than raise them: more seats chasing the same demand usually does.

Slovenia's capital gets its first US nonstop in nearly four decades on May 12, 2027, four times weekly on a Boeing 767-400ER: the only widebody-on-a-thin-route pairing in this batch that isn't seasonal-coded by United. May and June, right at launch, before Ljubljana's compact old town gets crowded with the Lake Bled day-trip traffic that peaks in July and August.
Four times a week on a widebody is unusual: it suggests United is testing demand cautiously rather than committing to year-round daily service. A route flown this thin can also be the first one trimmed if early bookings disappoint.

Newark to Olbia, Sardinia (OLB) and Catania, Sicily (CTA)
Two Italian islands, back to back on the calendar: Olbia launches May 27, 2027 (3x weekly, Boeing 767-300ER) and Catania follows May 28, 2027 (4x weekly, Boeing 767-300ER). Delta already flies nonstop from JFK to Catania (daily, since May 2025) and Olbia (seasonal, 4x weekly, since May 2026): United's Newark routes add a second New York-area nonstop option to each island, not the first.
Fares aren't public. Both routes fly on the same 767-300ER, which carries United's older widebody cabin rather than the new A321XLR's Polaris suites: worth knowing if a lie-flat seat is part of your calculation.
Late May and June put you ahead of the July-August Mediterranean crush, when Sardinia's beach towns and Sicily's coastal roads both hit capacity.

United hasn't priced it yet: DJ Mag reports "exact flight durations and fares have yet to be confirmed." For a rough proxy, current Newark-Mallorca round trips (a comparable Balearic island market United already serves) run $900 to $1,400 in economy, with premium fares exceeding $5,000. That range checks out against a real booking: The Points Guy paid roughly $1,100 for a one-way coach ticket on that same Newark-Mallorca route, a reasonable starting expectation for Ibiza until United posts real numbers.
Late May and early June, before peak club season, get you the island's beaches and old town without July-August's beach-club pricing and crowds.
Four times weekly on a seasonal-feeling Balearic route means this is unlikely to run through winter. Treat it as a summer-only option until United says otherwise.
You're not going for beaches or nightlife. Ibiza's airport and infrastructure are built around exactly that, and if your itinerary is culture-and-history focused, mainland Spain serves you better.

Newark to Marseille (MRS)
Daily service starts June 4, 2027 on the A321XLR: the second daily (non-thin) route in United's Newark batch alongside Luxembourg, which signals United expects steadier year-round demand here than on the 3x/4x-weekly island routes.
No fare published yet. Daily frequency into a major French port city with no current US nonstop suggests United is pricing this as a durable, not experimental, route.
Marseille works nearly year-round, but May-June and September avoid both the July-August Provence crowds and the highest fares.
Marseille itself splits opinion. It's a real working port city, not a polished resort town, and travelers expecting a Riviera postcard should base themselves in Nice or Cannes instead and use Marseille only as the airport.
Your real destination is Provence's countryside rather than the coast. Marseille gets you to the region, but the lavender fields and hill towns are still a rental-car drive away.
Newark to Terceira, Azores (TER)
United becomes the only US airline flying nonstop to Terceira, launching June 9, 2027, three times weekly on a Boeing 737 MAX 8. This flies on a Boeing 737 MAX 8, not the A321XLR. Travel Off Path reports the aircraft is "equipped with domestic-style United First recliners, Economy Plus, and standard Economy."
